  • Controversy

After an outrage over the opening song "Arabian Knights" from the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, the lyrics were changed from "where they cut off your ear if they don't like your face, it's barbaric, but, hey, it's home," in the original release to "Where it's flat and immense and the heat is intense, it's barbaric, but, hey, it's home." This incident was named one of the most controversial films in history by Entertainment Weekly.

Actor Robin Williams was not cast for the role of the Genie in the sequels due to a dispute with Disney over usage of his name. Williams did not want his name prominent in the marketing because another movie of his, Toys was to be released one month after the Aladdin debut.
