  • The Alabama State University Hornets men's basketball team plays college basketball in the Southwestern Athletic Conference of the NCAA.

    The Hornets won the 2009 SWAC Tournament, earning an automatic bid to play in the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. Alabama State was placed in one of the last two seeds of the tournament, but lost to the Morehead State in the NCAA Play-in Game on March 17, 2009.

  • Tournament History

    The Hornets won their SWAC Championship in 2001, taking both the regular season and tournament titles. They played in their first NCAA Tournament that season, falling to the top seed in the first round. In 2004, Alabama State returned to the NCAA Tournament, earning an automatic bid by winning the SWAC Tournament. Again, they loss in the first round to the top seed. The Hornets took the SWAC regular season title in 2008, but lost in the SWAC Tournament and were not selected for the NCAA tournament.
