In 1989 a small zoo opened in Gulf Shores on the coast of Alabama. Zooland Animal park was one mile from the beach and had a reptile house, petting zoo and an aviary. There were animal shows on a daily basis during the summer months.
This Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo Coupons page will help offset the cost of admittance. This zoo has a large history for such a small zoo. Due to difficulties that it faced during Hurricane season, the story of "the little Zoo that could" was picked up by the Animal Planet Network and they showed 13 episodes about the small zoo. The visitors to the zoo now have usually seen the Animal Planet show and are traveling to see the zoo for themselves.
There is a spirit of wanting to help the zoo now that is shared with the visitors from all over the United States. The zoo survives on the money gained by admission tickets and membership fees. There are about 300 animals at this small zoo in southern Alabama.http://www.gulf-shores-alabama.net/alabama-gulf-coast-zoo.html/ref>
