The Alabama Band is a two-time Grammy Award-winning country music act. Throughout the 1980s, they were one of the biggest selling country music acts in the world.
The band was formed in 1969 by Jeff Cook, Randy Owen and Teddy Gentry and initially were called Young Country. In 1973 they quit their day jobs and became full time musicians. In 1979 ex rock band drummer Mark Herndon was added to the band, this followed a number of previous unsuccessful attempts at recruiting a drummer. After they were signed by the RCA Records label, they released their first hit single "Tennessee River" in 1980.
The Alabama Band had a number 1 hit single in the Billboard Country Music Charts in every year from 1990 through until 2003.
Alabama began its farewell tour in 2003 and have completely retired from touring. They have since released two albums, Songs of Inspiration and 'Songs of Inspiration II in 2006 and 2007 respectively.
The Alabama Band were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2005.http://www.countrymusichalloffame.org/full-list-of-inductees/view/alabama
