Al Thornton is an American professional basketball player, currently playing for the Washington Wizards. He would establish himself as an excellent all-around player in his first season with the team, filling in for injured power forward Elton Brand.
Early Life
Al Thornton was born in Perry, Georgia on December 7, 1983. He would attend [[Perry Hight School where he averaged 27.0 points a game and 11 Rebounds. He would establish himself as a premiere high school prospect and at the time of his graduation, the school's all-time scoring leader with 1,500 points. He would move on to Florida State University where he would establish himself as one of the best players in school history and earning Third Team All-America Honors by the Associated Press.
Pro Career
Thornton would be selected with the 14th overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Clippers. With the season ending injury to Clippers star power forward Elton Brand, Thornton was thrust into the starting line-up where he flourished averaging double figures in scoring while playing big minutes. He is considered a important piece for the future as the Clippers look to rebound from their injury riddeled 2007-2008 campaign.
