Aishwarya Rai (aka Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) is a Bollywood model and actress and Miss World 1994. She recently married Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan.

Aishwarya has acted in over forty movies including the international productions Bride & Prejudice (2003), Mistress of Spices (2005), The Last Legion (2007) and The Pink Panther 2 (2009). Her new releases will be Raavan, Action replay and Endhiran.

Aishwarya Rai was born in Mangalore, India. Her father was a marine biologist and her mother was a writer.

Rai got her college degree and had plans to be an architect, but in 1994 she won Miss World and decided to pursue a career as a model and actress.

Her breakthrough film in Bollywood was Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, in which she starred opposite ex-boyfriend Salman Khan. Following the success of this film, she appeared in a number of other hit films and today is one of the top leading ladies in the Mumbai film industry.
