AirTran is a low-cost domestic airline with its main hub in at Atlanta's Hartfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The current AirTran Airways was formed in 1997 from a reverse merger with Valujet Airlines.
The company made headlines in early 2009 when U.S. citizen (and Muslim) Atif Irfan and eight members of his family were removed from an AirTran flight after having an innocent conversation about airplane safety.
