Airlines are companies that own and operate airplanes, scheduling them to transport people, luggage, or cargo from one airport to the next.http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/Airline There are airlines all over the world; some only operate within the country they are based while others operate internationally.
The idea of offering these services came after Charles Lindbergh had successfully made his solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean in 1927. Companies such as Aviation Corporation created divisions within the company for air transport. The division for the Aviation Corporation is commonly known today as American Airlines. Another widely known and common airline within the U.S. is United Airlines. What was to become United Airlines started as four separate divisions of the United Aircraft and Transportation Corporation which part of Boeing. It was the Kelly Airmail Act gave airlines that were privately owned the chance to bid on contracts to work as mail carriers. This also meant that the privately owned airlines could increase business by transporting cargo and passengers. Federal laws and rules came into effect with the passing of the Air Commerce Act in 1926.
1938 saw the introduction of the DC 3 an airplane that was designed for passengers and mail alike. It had 14 seats and three sleeping spaces for long trips. Shirley Temple was the first person to book one of the sleeping areas. The Civil Aeronautics Authority was also created in 1938. WWII brought about many changes in the airline industry both during and after. It was in the 1950’s that extreme changes were made and comfort of air travel was improved. In 1958 what we know has the FAA or Federal Aviation Administration was created along with the air traffic control plan.http://library.duke.edu/digitalcollections/adaccess/airline-history.html
AIRLINES SAFETY INFORMATION
This video is of a steward that works for Southwest Airlines giving the passengers the safety information in an unusual way. He first asks the passengers to give him a beat with a stomp and a clap and to keep it going as he raps out what needs to be said.
