Air Hogs Havoc Heli Laser Battle are a popular children's toy that was released in 2007. It consists of two foam flying helicopters that "do battle" by shooting laser beams at each other. A child operates each of the choppers, controlling where the laser beam is pointed and attempting do shoot down the other helicopter before theirs is hit. A direct laser hit on the chopper's sensor will cause the chopper to fall to the ground, creating a decisive winner and loser in the battle.
The helicopters each produce "authentic battle sounds" and perform real infrared targeting. The manufacturer claims that the copters are so easy to fly that even beginners will be able to handle the game battle with ease. The controllers have throttle, left/right controls, hover, and firing button, and feature infrared technology.
The Battle set comes with two helicopters and two controllers, and two rechargeable LIPO batteries. Six additional AA batteries are needed for each controller (so 12 AA batteries are needed in total), and these batteries are not includedhttp://www.drtoy.com/awards/product.php?ProductID=5794. The controllers can serve as a charging station for the helicopter LIPO batterieshttp://rcvehicles.about.com/od/rchelicopters/gr/HavocHeliLaserB.htm.
The recommended age for this toy is ages 7-12, and up. The toy has earned a reputation online for adults who have enjoyed playing with these toys both at home and at the office.
Although the product has receive generally favorable reviews online for performance and enjoyabilityhttp://www.microrcreviews.com/air-hogs-havoc-heli-laser-battle-review.htm, there have been some noted down sides to the product that should be considered before purchasing. In order to enjoy the product's full capabilities, two players are required. Shooting down an opponent's helicopter also requires some coordination to line up the two choppers horizontally and vertically. This could be considered a down side if younger children are operating the toys, but may be a welcome challenge for older children and adults.
