Ahmed Ressam is an Islamic fundamentalist who attempted to bomb the Los Angeles International Airport in 1999. He was sentenced to 22 years in prison for the plot. On December 4, 2008, Ressam was resentenced to 22 years in prison because he has stopped cooperating in other terrorism prosecutions. Although government lawyers urged the judge for at least a 45 year sentence, the judge in the case stated that the lighter decree was due in part to the help Ressam provided in terrorism cases.
