  • Career

Upon graduating from the Greek National Conservatoire, Baltsa was awarded the Maria Callas Scholarship, which assisted her further studies in Munich. Her opera debut came in 1968 as Cherubino in Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro.

Her energetic on-stage presence earned Baltsa a substantial fan following, making her one of the most popular opera singers of the 1970s. Perhaps her most famous role was Carmen opposite Jose Carreras in the Bizet opera of the same name. She sang other works by Rossini and Verdi as well.

Baltsa continues to perform, though not as frequently. Though many of her recordings have been repackaged and re-released, she has not made a studio album since 1991.
