Age Of Empires 2 : The Age Of Kings (also known as AOE2, AOK, Age Of Kings) is a real-time strategy (RTS) video game developed by Ensemble Studios and published by Microsoft Game Studios. It was released for the Windows and Macintosh operating systems, and was the second game in the Age of Empires series. An Expansion to this game, The Conquerors, was also released in 2000. The Conquerors includes major revisions to Age Of Kings, with several new units and civilizations. Since it's release, Age Of Kings has been one of the most popular and largest selling real-time strategy games of all time.

Overview
Similar to Age Of Empires, the game focuses on building houses, town centers, towers, military buildings, gathering resources, acquiring relics and trading resources.The players can win against other players by either destroying enemy buildings and units completely (Conquest), performing a regicide, or conquering a hill (King of the Hill).

Age Of Kings includes several civilizations to choose from. Each civilization has its own specific drawbacks and benefits. While no civilization is observed as supreme, fans often use the same civilizations as their trademarks in playing with others.

Units
There are mainly five types of units. Four fall under the military category and one falls under the economic category.The four types of military units are - Archers,Cavalry,Infantry and Siege. Villagers are categorized as Economic as they gather resources and construct buildings.

Buildings
Buildings within The Age of Kings are either economic, military or defensive in nature. Buildings can research technologies and upgrades that increase economic, military or unit-based efficiency, as well as provide resources for the player. The most important economic building is the Town Center, where villagers are created, resources stored, technologies researched, and the player can advance to the next Age.

Military units are created at military buildings, such as barracks, archery ranges, stables, and docks. The dock may also produce several non-combat units. Military buildings can perform research to improve the abilities of military units, increasing their strength, defensive capabilities, or other attributes. The castle is a military building which can train a wide variety of units, including the civilization's 'Unique Unit', and fires arrows at enemy units within range, with garrisoned units firing extra arrows. It can only be built after a player has reached the Castle Age.

Multiplayer
Age of Empires 2: The Age Of Kings is one of the most popular online real time strategy games to date. Several players have demonstrated their interest in the game by creating fan sites which serve as a meeting place for fans of the franchise.

The multiplayer version of this game is played in a variety of ways:

1. Random map - Users play on a random world map generated by computer
