Agathe Uwilingiyimana was the first female prime minister of Rwanda. Uwilingiyimana was assassinated during the Rwandan Genocide in 1994. Both Uwilingiyimana and her husband were shot just before she was to step down from the position. The day before she was killed, President Habyarimana was assassinated.
