The '"Queen of Crime,"' Agatha Christie was a prolific writer of novels, short stories and plays.
Best remembered for her 80 "cozy" mystery and detective-fiction novels and her successful West End theater screenplays, Christie also wrote romances under the name 'Mary Westmacott' as well as non-fiction under her own name. Her mysteries, particularly those featuring Hercule Poirot or Miss Jane Marple made her one of the most important writers of her era.
Christie revolutionized the mystery genre and sold roughly two billion copies of her work by 1950 http://us.agathachristie.com/about-christie/the-queen-of-crime/ alone. Although it is impossible to calculate the exact number of her books sold during her lifetime and since her death, it has been said that only the Bible has outsold her creations.
Quoteable:
* "I specialize in murders of quiet, domestic interest."
- "Crime is terribly revealing. Try and vary your methods as you will, your tastes, your habits, your attitude of mind, and your soul is revealed by your actions."
