After Heaven is a 2009 film based on the true story of the Hawaiian princess Ka'iulani and her attempts to keep Hawaii independent against the threat of oncoming American colonization. The film garnered some early controversy among Hawaiians due to it's original title of Barbarian Princess, the casting of a non-Hawaiian to play the Princess and the use of the Iolani Palace as a filming location.
