Kuma's Story
- YouTube: Afro Samurai Walkthrough - Kuma's Story Part 1 HD (Time: 10:10)
- Head down the stairs and turn right. The first Memento is at the end of this small path.
- Now take the other fork in the path.
- Kuma will attack. Block at the start of this encounter to fend off his first attack.
- Kuma blocks both of your moves. To land a successful strike, you need to Parry his initial attack by pressing RT just as he slices, then press RT again to block his second attack. Immediately follow up with a combo. Do this twice and Kuma will disappear.
- Continue along the path. Kuma will appear again, but only to frighten you. Wait until the wind dies down, then keep moving.
- It's not long before Kuma appears again. You can drive him away with the same strategy of two parries followed by an attack.
- As you move along the path that curves around to the left, keep an eye out for the next Memento. The group of birds is easy to see against the snow on the left side of the path. Just after this, there's a Teddy Bear on top of one of the stone pillars.
- Keep moving until you reach the clearing where Kuma is waiting. The same strategy applies here. Stay close to Kuma to force his two-hit combo, parry the first attack and block the second, then follow with a combo of your own. Note that the timing of the second parry will be slightly later than in previous encounters.
- CAUTION: If you don't see the curling blade spark that indicates a successful parry, keep holding RT. If you let go, Kuma will hit you with his follow-up attacks.
- After a few successful hits, Afro and Kuma will lock swords, then Kuma will begin attacking with more intensity.
- The old strategy has to be modified now. You still want to parry his first two attacks, but your combos will need to be more deliberate. Keep hitting him with three taps of X followed by three taps of Y. Repeat this until he counterattacks, even if it doesn't seem to work at first, because you'll likely land a few hits in the process.
- After enough successful strikes, Afro and Kuma lock swords once more. Use the same strategy of parrying followed by combos of three X and three Y. Eventually, Kuma will retreat.
- Before moving up the stairs, get the third Memento, located on the far left side of this clearing, near the wall of stones.
- Take the path that goes slightly upstairs. When you reach the tall, narrow structure, climb up the first wall in front if you, then wall jump along the sides to reach the next platform.
- This leads to some wooden planks outside. Follow them to the end, then climb up the wall that leads back inside.
- Climb up the ramp and you'll reach another outdoor wooden plank. Leap up to the next inside ledge at the end of the plank, then jump between the inner walls to reach the next level. Hop up the small wooden planks to reach the ship.
- Kuma appears and will begin attacking by breaking holes in the ground. Run towards the front of the ship to escape him.
- YouTube: Afro Samurai Walkthrough - Kuma's Story Part 2 HD (Time: 11:03)
- Run up the wooden beam on the left side of the ship. You'll reach a section where you can jump up to the next level.
- This triggers another fight with Kuma. Get close to him so he stops breaking down the floors, and use the same strategy as the last battle to fend him off.
- Before going out the front side of the ship to find Kuma again, turn around and go out the back end, where you originally came from. Once you're outside, there are two items to get here. Just around the right corner, there's another Memento, and on the left side there's a Teddy Bear.
- Go back inside and grab the Teddy Bear here if you haven't done so already.
- Achievement: Go out the other end of the ship and grab the last Memento, which lies directly in front of you. This gives you "Widow Maker" Achievement and a new skill. Alfronado Category 7 is a deadly combo executed by hitting X X X Y Y Y X+A X X'.
- Turn back towards the inside of the ship. You'll see several large planks of wood sticking out. Jump on the lowest one, which is just to the left of the doorway. Jump from the very end of this one to the plank above and to your left.
- From here, hop up slightly to the inner part of the plank, then jump to the next one on your right. Leap to the plank on the opposite side of the doorway, go to the edge of the plank and jump up to the next one on your right. Run onto the top of the ship to trigger a cutscene.
- Afro and Kuma now face off back on the ground. Your strategy here should be the same as before. Parry by blocking just before his strikes, then block again to deflect his second attack. Immediately follow up with three X attacks followed by three Y attacks and keep attacking until he counters.
- Hit him enough times, and Kuma will jump to a perch and speak. The battle resumes after this. Use the same strategy. There's a Teddy Bear near Kuma's perch if you need it.
- Kuma, now fully unmasked, speaks once more. When he comes back down, his attacks will be much different. You'll need to run to avoid his wild swings and pounces.
- After his attacks, follow with a long string of combos like the ones you used before. As you're attacking, throw in an occasional kick to make him move, then keep attacking. This will increase your chances of hitting him in the back.
- Kuma (or Jinno) is mostly vulnerable after a very specific set of attacks. Occasionally, he'll use his shoulder to knock you down, and will follow with an attack from far in the air. Once you get up, run around to his back side and use combos.
- Enough hits and Jinno will die. This completes the level and gives you the Achievement for "The Past Laid to Rest."
The Empty Seven's Story
- The level begins with Afro facing off against five Androids. Ninja Ninja is waiting on the left side of the room, and you can tag him to play Body Part Poker.
- If you haven't earned the "Gunshot Android Straight" Achievement, now's a good time. Initiate Body Part Poker and slice off an android head with the Lightning Pounce attack. Then, start hacking away at the remaining enemies. Weaken them with combos of X and Y, then direct Horizontal and Vertical Perfect Slices at large groups when possible. With any luck, you'll cut off a leg and hand, completing the straight flush.
- Clear out the remaining Androids. Start your combos with Y attacks, then follow up with X attacks, and use Perfect Slices when the enemies are weakened.
- Once you've defeated them all, grab the first Memento from the front right corner of the room before stepping onto the elevator.
- When you reach the bottom, leap off the platform and attack the Androids in the same manner as before. The orange ones explode when thrown, but it's easier to just slice them in half.
- Grab the Teddy Bear in the front right corner of the room, then approach the large doorway. You'll see a club-wielding enemy at the other end of the hallway.
- Run close to this enemy to trigger his three-hit combo, but keep your distance while he's doing it. After he pounds the ground with his third attack, close in and unleash a three or four-hit combo followed by a Vertical Perfect Slice, then retreat. Repeat this a few times to defeat him. Continue through the next door.
- You'll see a brief cutscene, then play will resume in a large open area. A group of ninjas will attack. Note that Ninja Ninja is waiting on the other end of the room, directly in front of you, so tag him if you want to play Body Part Poker
- Several waves of ninjas will come attacking here. Target one at a time with combos of X attacks followed by Y attacks. When you see the other enemies getting near, go In Focus and unleash a Horizontal Perfect Slice. This will fend some of them off and possibly cause an instant kill on others.
- Continue with this strategy until the fourth wave of enemies appears. As the numbers in this group dwindles, a large enemy with a sword will arrive. Keep your distance from him as you target the last of the smaller enemies.
- Use longer combos against these enemies, such as X, X, X, Y, Y, Y, Y, then finish off with a Horizontal Perfect Slice. If the enemies leap when you go In Focus, try waiting until they come down to make your attack.
- Once the smaller enemies are defeated, go after the big guy. Block his initial sword strike, then counter with a combo of your own. If he's blocking, throw in a kick to knock him off balance, then continue using your sword.
- When you see this enemy get stunned momentarily, quickly launch a Horizontal Perfect Strike. Repeat this sequence of attacks until he is defeated.
- Next, you'll have to face two waves of female assassins. They'll try to surround you, so when they do, go In Focus and press B to perform a sweeping kick. This will either knock them off their feet or cause them to jump away, buying you time.
- Use combos of X attacks followed by Y attacks against these enemies. You can also kick periodically to knock them off guard.
- Once you've weakened them enough, start using Horizontal Perfect Slices. This probably won't hurt the enemy you're attacking, but will kill anyone that's approaching from the sides. You may have to finish the remaining enemies off with regular combos.
- After beating the female assassins, pair of two big sword-wielding enemies will emerge. Keep your distance from them.
- Eventually, one of them will charge at you and swing his sword. Run away from this attack, then approach the enemy and press B, X, X, followed by a Horizontal Perfect Slice.
- Retreat from the enemies once you've done this and then repeat the process. You'll have to defeat four pairs of enemies in this manner.
- If you need health in this area, there's a Teddy Bear on the left side facing the door you came from.
- Once you've defeated all these enemies, you can start pulling levers in this room. Start with the one on your left, if you're looking from the tunnel where you entered the room.
- To pull the switch, just climb up the wall to the flashing icon. Now, head up the stairs near this switch and jump on the blue cube that's at the back of the platform.
- You'll have to jump several times between this narrow corridor to reach the next platform. Remember, hold the left thumbstick in the direction of the wall you're jumping to, as this makes Afro stick to the wall.
- At the top, jump to the next platform on the right, then wall run to the platform after that. Run up the wall, and jump off to reach the beam. Leap along the next to beams to reach another platform.
- Two ninjas will attack. A couple of quick X strikes followed by a Horizontal Perfect Slice kills them easily.
- Wall run between the platforms on the left, then jump to the beam. From here, you'll need to jump up the narrow shaft above you.
- At the top, wall run from the platform on the right, then jump at the end of the wall to reach the beam. Jump up the walls here to reach the next platform. You can run right here to get a Teddy Bear, then go left and jump between the series of beams to reach the top.
- Before heading toward the cube, turn right and walk along the edge fo the gear. Look to your right at the end of the path and grab the Memento nestled among the machinery.
- Now, head into the cube. You'll have another confrontation with Brother Six.
- You'll have no chance attacking him from the front. Keep your distance until he attacks with two swings of his staff, and start running around behind him as he finishes the second attack. You'll only be able to get in a few hits before he knocks you away.
- After a few successful strikes, Brother Six will start using some new attacks.
- Your best opportunities to strike are after he unleashes a major pound to the ground. He'll either do this attack on its own, or after a series of two shorter strikes. Stay at a medium distance and you'll have just enough time to get behind him and slice three times.
- A few more hits and Brother Six will get even more vicious. When he twirls his staff in the air, he'll either throw a grenade or pound the ground. Either way, move toward either side of him. If he hits the ground, move in and attack from behind.
- You can also still attack after his three-hit combo. Keep hitting Brother Six from behind, and you'll eventually defeat him for good.
- Afro is now back on the ground. Head to the lever in front of you and pull it, then go up the stairs. Climb up the wall at the back and jump up the the shaft as you did last time.
- At the top, go right, run up the wall and leap to the beam. Jump to the platform to your left and quickly run along the wall before the platform crumbles. Jump at the end of your run to reach the next platform.
- Turn around and run back along this wall. You have to jump at the very end of your run to reach the next beam. From here, jump to reach the next platform, slightly below.
- Leap up the wall to the next platform. A gunman will start shooting at you, so don't head towards him until you've blocked his first shot. Once he's fired, wall run to the crumbling platform, then run again to the enemy. Take him down with a few quick slashes and a Perfect Slice.
- From here, you can run back to the right along the wall and jump to another pole. Leap from this pole to the next crumbling platform, then along the wall again to some solid ground.
- There's a Teddy Bear here. Also, you can drop down to a platform just to your right for the third Memento.
- Go back up to the platform with the Teddy Bear and wall run to your left, jumping at the end to reach another beam. Leap to the next beam on your left, and jump up to the next platform.
- A gunman appears in the distance to your right. Block his first shot, then head towards him. Don't try to land on the beam to your right. Wall run past it and jump to the crumbling platform. Run along the wall again to reach the gunman.
- After taking him down, climb up to the gear and head into the cube.
- Brother Three is here. He summons a crowd of minions before taking off.
- The first two groups are simple enemies. Use combos of three or four X attacks followed by three or four Y attacks. Perfect Slices work well here, too.
- Next, a few groups of female assassins appears. Lead off your combos with kicks, then follow with the same combo as before. If you haven't been using Perfect Slices, use your Overfocus on the third wave of female assassins to take them out easily.
- You're back on the ground floor again. Pull the last lever, on the right, and head up the stairs. Climb wall jump up the narrow corridor to the next level.
- A couple of enemies will attack you here. Wall run to the platform with the door on the wall, and kill the enemies with a couple of X attacks and Horizontal Perfect Slices.
- The fourth Memento is on the far platform to your left. Wall run to reach it.
- Head back to the right, wall running between the platforms and crossing over the shaft you jumped up before. Climb up the wall to your right.
- Keep going to the right and jump to the pole. Wall jump up this corridor, then head to the next platform on your left.
- A couple more enemies will appear. Again, they are easily defeated. Continue moving to the left.
- Climb up the last wall and jump to the poles, leading to another platform above. Grab the Teddy Bear before jumping onto the pole. Wall jump up this corridor to reach the gear.
- Before heading into the cube, walk along the gear to your left. The last Memento is at the end of the path. You'll get the Achievement for "The Samurai Ghost" and a new skill. These "Moonshine" attacks let you hit X three times, Y three times and X three times, followed by a charged Y attack, or Y three times, X three times and Y three times, followed by a charged X attack.
- Now, head into the cube. It's time to fight Brother One.
- You'll need to perform a Bullet Reflect at just the right moment to counter his machine gun attacks. Hold LT when you see the screen split, showing Brother One with the gun. When you see and hear gunfire, immediately hold X. Let go just when you see Afro's blade shimmer to send the bullet back.
- Brother Four will come after you, and he's on fire. Stand so the circle in the middle of the cube is in between you and him. The floor will open up when he runs across, slicing him to death.
- Brother One will reappear, and he'll shoot a series of bullets that you can't reflect. Face him, standing in the middle of the arena, and hold RT to block. Keep blocking until the screen splits, showing the Brother lining up a shot.
- Now, perform the Bullet Reflect the same way you did before. Another Brother will come after you, on fire. Lead him into the middle of the arena, feeding him to the grinding gears.
- You'll have to reflect Brother One's bullets one more time. Hold RT until the screen splits, then perform the Bullet Reflect to kill him.
- Brother Two appears in the arena now, along with a group of Androids. Just hold them off until this Brother can finish his speech. Use X attacks followed by Horizontal Perfect Slices. They don't put up much of a fight.
- Eventually the screen will go black, ending the mission and giving you the "All That Stood are Gone" Achievement.
