Most of the gameplay in Afro Samurai revolves around setting up combos for attacks. The Xbox 360 and PS3 controller face buttons are all assigned a specific action, which can then be strung together with other actions to create combos.

According to the developers, Afro Samurai was designed to be highly accessible to players who were new to the third-person action]genre, while still offering skilled players a sense of challenge and reward. This is where the combos come in. An inexperienced player can easily pick up the game and do some damage, but more experienced players can employ strategy in stringing together their combos to do the most damage.

The title character, Afro, has more than 100 unique moves and 30 basic combos that can be strung together in a variety of ways. As players progress through the game, more complicated and powerful combos are unlocked.
