Ten of the girls that were taken into custody from the Polygamist Sect Raid on April 3, 2008 have convinced the Child Protective Services agency that they are adults.
One woman was actually shown to be 27 years old, who also has children under the care of the Child Protective Services agency. In addition to the ten who have shown they are of legal age, there are an additional 17 women still in the disputed age group.
Many are expected to soon be classified as adults in the court's judicial system. This has weakened Texas's case that dozens of underage girls were forced to have sex with older men. Some of the girl's ages are being disputed in court.
Background
Police took a total of 437 children into custody during the raid on the FLDS compound near San Antonio, Texas.
Reports surfaces of possible sex abuse against the children, having forced some of the girls to marry and have sex under the age of 18.
Now this may be called into question because of the insistence and verifiable proof that some of the girls are actually old enough to legally be adults.
