Adolf Hitler led the Nazi Party to power in Germany in the 1930s, eventually appointing himself to the position of "Fuhrer" in August of 1934. Under Hitler's leadership, Germany entered into World War II as one of the Axis Powers and implemented a genocidal program against European Jews, gypsies, homosexuals and other minority groups known as The Holocaust. Hitler committed suicide in a bunker beneath Berlin on April 30, 1945, as the city was under siege by the Red Army of the Soviet Union.
Thirteen watercolor paintings attributed to Hitler were sold at auction in Nuremberg, Germany, on April 23, 2009, for approximately $143,000.
