Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) is an abnormal curvature of the spine that develops during adolescence, approximately between the ages of 10-18. This spinal curvature seems to develop for unknown reasons since it is not caused by a congenital defect or neuromuscular disease.
Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis Symptoms
Rib Hump: When bending forward, one side of the ribcage is higher than the other.
Trunk Shift: When standing the trunk of the body is shifted to either the left or right in relation to the hips.
Pain: It is common for individuals with AIS to experience back pain, though pain is not always a symptom.
