History
Adium was started in 2001 by a college student, Adam Iser. The first version of Adium, 1.0, only supported AIM. Later, Adium was re-written with use of Pidgin's libpurple library in order to add in support for many more IM networks.Even though the first release of Adium was 1.0, followed by many other releases, eventually its version number was bumped back to version 0.50 because it was considered to be "halfway to a 1.0 product."
