Locating the USB Pin Layout
On the motherboard you will find a pin layout, which is used for making USB connections. This pin layout connects to the slot of the computer into which you will plug the USB device. A wire cable attaches the USB pin layout on the motherboard to the front panel. This front panel is where you normally insert the USB device.
Adding New USB Attachments
You can install a new USB at a location other than the front panel of your computer. To do this, you'll need to purchase a connecting cable to attach to the USB pin layout on the motherboard. In addition, you'll need to cut out a slot on the computer case where you want the USB connection. Make sure to use a sharp metal blade to etch out an opening large enough to run your cable through.
Run the cable through the computer to the opening. Depending on where you bought your components, the pin layouts on the motherboard and cable may not match up exactly. If this happens you can use your motherboard's manual to determine which jumper goes to each location.
Another common use for the USB pin layout is adding an expansion card to the computer. This involves attaching the card to the bay by fitting it into the available slots and connecting its cable into the motherboard USB pin layout. You may need to read your motherboard's manual to determine the correct pin layout.
