Activism Campaigns
Adbusters is best known for their "Culture Jamming" campaigns in which readers protest corporate images and influence via destruction. For example, Adbusters has published photos of billboards that have been vandalized by readers protesting a corporation or political organization. Adbusters has created and promotes several other activism campaigns also including "Buy Nothing Day"," Mental Detox Week", and "Media Carta". Each campaign promotes awareness of the true cost of consumerism and media saturation in our modern lives. Through these campaigns, Adbusters encourages people to not buy anything and turn off the media they regularly consume (including TV and DVDs) for at least one day. They also sell products that promote these causes including their Blackspot sneakers (no logo, not made in a sweatshop) and "Brand America" T-shirts. -
