Fictional character, Admiral William "Husker" Adama, was a Colonial Viper Pilot during the First Cylon War, and was stationed at that time on the Battlestar Columbia. More than forty years later, he is commander of the Battlestar Galactica and just days from the fifty year old ship's decommissioning when the Cylons launch a surprise attack and destroy the Twelve Colonies. He has no choice but to take on a position of leadership that rivals the presidential office, and over time, he and the new colonial president, Laura Roslin, provide a balance to one another's approach to survival.
Adama's History
William Adama appears gruff and abrasive upon first introduction, but it is clear that his officers respect, admire and love him deeply. He has on several occasions referred to the crew of the Galactica as his family. As the series progresses, it becomes clear that his relationship with his surviving son, Lee Adama, is somewhat strained, and his marriage with Lee's mother, Carolanne, was troubled.
Adama is dedicated to the service and often sacrifices his personal relationships to do what is best for his ship and his crew.

- "You cannot play God then wash your hands of the things that you've created. Sooner or later, the day comes when you can't hide from the things that you've done anymore." TV Loop: Battlestar Galactica Quotes
- "We made a decision to leave the colonies after the attack. We made the decision. It was the right one then, and it's the right one now. Because every moment of every day since then is a gift."Battlestar Wiki: Quotes
- "It's interesting... betrayal has such a powerful grip on the mind. It's almost like a python, it can squeeze out all other thought, suffocate all other emotion until... everything is dead except for the rage. I'm not talking about anger, I'm talking about rage. I can feel it. Right here..."Battlestar Wiki: Quotes
