Adam Malysz is the 5'6, 119 lb, Ski Jumper representing Poland in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, BC. Nicknamed the Polish Eagle Adam began ski jumping at age 6 under the tutelage of his uncle, Jan Szturc.
In 1993, he competed in the Polish Junior Championship in Nordic Combined and took home the bronze medal. In 1996, he won the final World Cup race of the season at Holemenkollen in Oslo, Norway much to the delight of the citizens of Wisla who bankrolled his trip. Competing in his last competition, Jens Weissflog, a 4 time Olympian medalist representing Germany and Malysz's idol, lost to him.
Then in 1997, he won in Hakuba and Sapporo, but his performances started to decline. Many people blamed it on his marriage to Izabela. Their daughter, Karolina was born shortly after their marriage, and people complained that Malysz was spending too much time with his family, and not enough in training.
He hooked up with trainer, Apoloniusz Tajner and two university professors and began training to get his former form back. He went to the 2000-2001 Four Hills Tournament which is one event in a 4 series competition of the World Cup held in Germany and Austria. He won handily. His success rocketed him back into the foreground and he became Poland's favorite son again. In that competition, he was the first Pole to ever win, and the first to break 1000 total points for the entire competition, winning by 104 points over his closest competitor.
Malysz has won a world championship 4 times and the overall World Cup 4 times. He is the first person to win the World Cup in 3 consecutive years.http://www.nbcolympics.com/athletes/athlete=2474/bio/index.html
