  • August 11, 2008: Longtime Cincinnati Reds outfielder Adam Dunn was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks for three prospects. Cincinnati received Dallas Buck and two players to be named later. The move gives the Diamondbacks a much needed power hitter. The Diamondbacks were 20th in runs scored, while Adam Dunn is tied for the lead in Major League Baseball with 32 home runs.
  • Response to Manny Trade

Baseball analysts are speculating that the trade for Adam Dunn was arguably a response by the Arizona Diamondbacks to the acquisition of Manny Ramirez by the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Diamondbacks led the Dodgers by a mere 1 1/2 games at the time of the Dunn trade.

The Dodgers are 5-5 with Ramirez. Ramirez was hitting .475 with four home runs and 13 runs batted in since joining the Dodgers. Dunn is in the final year of a contract that pays him $13 million a season; he is seen by experts as merely a rental for the stretch run.

  • Adam Dunn Trade Quotes

"It's tougher to lose a good guy, you know, than the 40-home run guy. It's going to be tough to replace his offense, but it's even tougher to replace the man."Dusty Baker, Reds Manager

"It was one of those pleasant surprises. To come off the terrible month that we had in Cincinnati, and you get a phone call today saying you're being traded to a first-place team. As a player that's all you could ask for."Adam Dunn
