History of Acting
Acting dates back to 534 B.C. when Thespis performed one man shows on the streets of Greece. He pulled a handcart around on the streets and would stop to perform his one man show for the crowds that gathered. Before this, entertainment came mainly in the form of poetry readings and performances by the chorus. Thespis is said to have came out of the chorus one night and began talking as a character. He added makeup and masks to his shows which grew into the makeup and costuming which are used in acting today. Actors are often referred to as Thespians in honor of Thespis being considered the first actor in history.http://www.in2greece.com/english/historymyth/history/ancient/thespis.htm http://www.pbs.org/empires/thegreeks/background/24a.html
