Founded in 1976 by Stan Shih, Acer is a multinational company with an annual revenue of over $15 billion dollars. Acer manufactures computers, laptops, netbooks such as the Eee PC, peripherals, monitors, and a variety of other technology related products. Since its establishment, this Taiwan based company has grown into the third largest distributor for PCs after HP and Dell. It also holds the largest retail chain for PCs in Taipei. Acer merchandise their products targeting users of all kind such as business, government, education, and home users.

Stan Shih started Acer with a capital of $25,000 and 11 employess, with a mission of overcoming the barriers between people and technology. Currently this company employess more than 5400 people throughout the world at more than 100 countries.

According to BBC, Acer has signed up its name on the list for the sponsors of Vancouver 2010 Winter games and London 2012 Summer Olympics. This sponsorship is expected to increase its recognition in Europe and America.
