Accutane is used to treat severe, disfiguring nodular acne that has not been helped by other treatments, such as antibiotics. It's also used to treat harlequin ichthyosis, a sometimes fatal congenital skin defect. While the mechanism of action is not understood, it does seem to involve DNA transcription. The results of this are reduced sebum production and shrunken sebaceous glands, which stabilizes keratinization. RxList: Accutane
