  • Sixteen gunmen and two soldiers were killed in a two hour shoot-out taking place in Acapulco on Sunday, June 7, 2009.   • Background

    The shootout in Acapulco is the latest in a long line of skirmishes between the Mexican police forces and drug lords or mafia-styled families from across the country. While most of the skirmishes have been moving northward toward the border towns shared with the United States, the battle rages on in other places such as Acapulco as well.
