Abu Ghazwan

Abu Ghazwan was a senior leader of the terrorist group Al Qaeda in Iraq. Ghazwan was reportedly killed on November 7, 2008. He was shot and killed by a Sunni Arab patrol while hiding out north of Baghdad.NewsDaily: Iraqi forces kill senior al Qaeda leader (November 8, 2008)

According to reports, Ghazwan was in close contact with Al Qaeda in Iraq head Abu Ayyub al Masri. Ghazwan was in charge of the "Ghazwan Network," a terrorist cell that operated in the Northern Baghdad region in the Tarimyah and Taji areas. The U.S. Military has been pursuing Ghazwan's terror cell for more than a year and have been attempting to systemically destroy his organization. In September, 2007, an underling of Ghazwan, Abu Bakr was killed, and another top affiliate, Tha'ir Malik, was killed in November, 2007.
