ABN AMRO is a multinational Dutch banking conglomeration headquartered in Amsterdam. The bank formed in 1991, after ABN Bank and AMRO Bank merged. At the time, the two institutions were the largest commercial banks in The Netherlands. From 1991-2007 ABN AMRO was one of the biggest banking corporations in Europe. In 2007 ABN AMRO was taken over by a banking consortium that included: Royal Bank of Scotland Group, Fortis, Banco Santander, and Bank of America.
