    Abigail Kathleen Breslin was born in New York City on April 14, 1996. Her mother, Kim, is her manager and her father, Michael, is a telecommunications expert, computer programmer and consultant. Breslin has two older brothers, Spencer and Ryan.

    Breslin first appeared in a television commercial for Toys R Us when she was just three years old. In 2002, she was cast to play Mel Gibson's young daughter in the science fiction movie Signs. In 2004, Breslin and her brother Spencer played siblings in the movie Raising Helen, which starred Kate Hudson.

    In 2006, Breslin was picked to star in the comedy Little Miss Sunshine as a beauty pageant contestant. In 2007, she received a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination, as well as an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role, becoming the fourth-youngest actress to be nominated for that honor. In 2008, Breslin starred in An American Girl, which was released on July 2, 2008.
