Aaron Rowand is a major league outfielder for the San Francisco Giants.
Early Life
Aaron Ryan Rowand was born in Portland, Oregon on August 29, 1977. He would attend Glendora High School in California. He would be drafted by the New York Mets in the 40th round of the 1995 Major League Baseball Draft. But he would elect to attend college at California State University, Fullerton where he would earn All American honors in 1998.
Pro Career
Rowand would be selected with the 35th pick in the 1998 Major League Draft by the Chicago White Sox. He would make his Major League Baseball debut on June 16, 2001. He would finish the season as an American League Rookie of the Year candidate, finishing fourth in voting. He would establish himself as an every day outfielder in 2004. Then in 2005, he would spark the White Sox to the World Series. In the offseason, he would be traded to the Philadelphia Phillies for slugger Jim Thome. In May of 2006 he would make his signature play by crashing face first into a wall to make the final out in a bases loaded situation. He would require hours of surgery after the play, but his status as a hard nosed, old school player was cemented. In 2007, Rowand would be elected to his first all-star team and during the off season Rowand signed a five year $60 million dollar contract with the San Francisco Giants.
