Aaliyah

Aaliyah was born Aaliyah Dana Haughton on January 16, 1979. She was a multi-talented singer, dancer, actress, and model. She had many top hits and accomplishments before her untimely death. She died in a plane crash in Marsh Harbor, Abaco Islands, The Bahamas on Saturday, August 25, 2001 when she was only 22 years old. The pilot of the airplane was unlicensed at the time of the accident.

There were nine people aboard the Cessna 402B when it exploded on impact. The airplane crashed upon experiencing engine failure just after liftoff. In addition to Aaliyah, six men and two other women were killed in the crash. Her makeup artist, a representative of Virgin Records, and the pilot were among those who died. Aaliyah was introduced to performing at a young age. She sang at weddings, charity events, and in the church choir as a child. When she was in first grade, she was cast in a role in the school play, Annie, which sparked her passion for entertaining. When she was just nine years old, she competed on the television talent show Star Search.

Aaliyah dated Damon Dash from 2000-2001. Dash is the founder of Rocawear Clothing, Roc-A-Fella Films, Dash Films, and Roc-A-Fella Records. Dash and Aaliyah were romantically linked at the time of her death.

There were rumors that Aaliyah was dating R&B singer Ginuwine (born Elgin Baylor Lumpkin) prior to her relationship with Damon Dash, but the pair maintained that they were just good friends.

Aaliyah was also rumored to have dated Jay-Z before his relationship with Beyonce.
