Plot
The book is an embellished and comic version of a real-life attempt to hike the Appalachian Trail by Bryson and his companion Matt Angerer (under the pseudonym, Stephen Katz). The hikers, both out of shape, complete a total of 500 miles after much struggle and misadventure. Later, Bryson undertakes smaller hikes with and without Angerer, to somewhat greater success. -
