    A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is set in the late 1800s as young Francie Nolan is becoming a young woman in the poor neighborhood of Williamsburg. She has a strong loving family, and despite living in an undesirable neighborhood, make the most of their situation and have managed to instill good values in their children. Francie is very intelligent and eager to learn new things, which is a driving force in her pursuit of success. Along the way, Francie experiences tragedies in the death of her father and an incident with a sex offender. With the support of her family and strong will she is able to overcome these horrible events and become a successful adult.
