Main Characters
- Violet: Violet is the oldest of the three children and first in line to the family fortune. In the film adaptation, Violet is played by Emily Browning.
- Klaus: Klaus is the middle child of the three Baudelaire children. Klaus has a photographic memory and is played by Liam Aiken on screen.
- Sunny: Sunny is an infant girl with large razor sharp teeth. In the film she is played by Kara and Shelby Hoffman
- Count Olaf: Olaf is the guardian of the Baudelaire children and the villain of the series who is intent upon stealing the Baudelaire inheritance. In the film, Olaf is played by Jim Carrey.
- Arthur Poe: Poe is the kindhearted but moronic banker who is responsible for watching after and executing the Baudelaire will.
