The movie was filmed digitally and then interpreted through an interpolated rotoscope over the original footage to create a distinct animated look.   • Plot Summary

    Set in the near future, A Scanner Darkly tells the story of Bob Arctor (Keanu Reeves), an undercover police officer charged with infiltrating a group of drug pushers. To maintain his cover, Arctor finds himself ingesting increasing amounts of the drug, known as "Substance D," which causes users' personalities to split. Arctor becomes addicted to the drug and unable to discern between reality and fantasy.
