A Perfect Circle was an Alternative Rock band from California formed by Billy Howerdel (a guitar tech for the band Tool) after he played his music for Tool singer Maynard James Keenan. The band formed in the late '90s when the members of Tool were taking a break from performing. Their first album, Mer de Noms, went platinum (thanks in part by the hit single, "Judith"). This was followed up by 2003's Thirteenth Step, which also sold over a million copies. 2004's eMOTIVe was a collection of anti-war cover songs that included "What's Going On" by Marvin Gaye, "Imagine" by John Lennon, and "Fiddle and the Drum" by Joni Mitchell.
Because the band members had commitments to several other bands, A Perfect Circle took an indefinite hiatus in 2006.
