A League Of Their Own is a 1992 film starring Geena Davis, Tom Hanks, and Madonna about players in the real-life World War II-era All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL). The film, directed by Penny Marshall, was a major hit and spawned a short-lived 1993 television series of the same name.

The All-American Girls Professional Baseball League was an actual entity, formed during World War II as a way of financially supporting minor league baseball stadiums that were emptied as a result of the shutdown of professional baseball during the war. The league played by the rules of professional baseball—not softball—and lasted until 1953. In the film fictionalization of the first season of the league's existence, Tom Hanks plays Jimmy Dugan, the manager of the Rockford Peaches. Dottie Hinson (Geena Davis) is the catcher and the star hitter, Kit Keller (Lori Petty) is the team's feisty pitcher (and Dottie's younger sister), Doris Murphy (Rosie O'Donnell) is the team's gritty third basemen, and Mae Mordabito (Madonna) is the center-fielder. Much of the plot centers around the team's season, as well as the sibling rivalry between Dottie and Kit, both of which culminate in a final scene at the championship game.
