The rights for a film adaptation of A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius were purchased by New Line Cinema soon after the Pulitzer Prize-nominated memoir was published 2000. But in late 2007, the author Dave Eggers confirmed in published interviews that the film would not go into production.
