A Course in Miracles

  • A Course in Miracles is a guidebook for spiritual self-study consisting of three books: Text, Workbook for Students and Manual for Teachers. The Text is the theoretical background for the Course which incorporates elements of Christian mysticism, Eastern religion and psychological theory. The text explains how basic emotions such as fear and guilt can be overcome through miracles which are “maximal expressions of love”. The Workbook for Students consists of 365 lessons, an exercise one for each day of the year. These lessons stimulate practice of various aspects of forgiveness that will lead to spiritual awaking. The Manual for Teachers is written in a frequently asked question form and provides the answers to questions a student might ask as well as clarification of a number of the terms the Course uses.

Authors Helen Schucman and William Thetford received their inspiration for this book through a form of channeling which Schuman called “inner dictation“. Alleging the source of her channeling was through Jesus Christ. The first edition evolves from the early form of A Course in Miracles commonly known as the Urtext. The third edition contains all of the writings authorized for print by Schuman. A Course in Miracles has been translated in many languages including Bulgarian, Chinese, Croatian, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.
