Zach Sowers

Baltimore resident Zach Sowers was severely beaten and robbed while walking home from an evening out with friends on Friday June 1, 2007. The attack left Sowers in a vegetative state in John's Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. Sowers eventually succumbed to his injuries after a steady decline in his health on Tuesday March 25, 2008 at 10 pm . Four teenagers, Trayvon Ramos, Eric Price, Arthur Jeter and Wilburt Martin, were arrested and plead guilty to the assault on Sowers. Ramos, the main assailant, was sentenced to 40 years in prison while the other three were each sentenced to eight years. In response to the plea deal she found unfavorable Anna Sowers, Zach's widow, has been pushing a bill in Maryland congress that would allow prosecutors to pursue murder charges in an assault that leaves someone in a vegetative state for more than six weeks.
