Chauncey Bailey Murder
In August of 2007, Chauncey Bailey was murdered in Oakland while he was researching Your Black Muslim Bakery for an Oakland Post article. Devaughndre Broussard, an employee of YBMB, initially confessed to the murder. However, he later recanted his confession and claimed that Bey had convinced him to take the fall for the bakery. Broussard claimed he knew who the real killer was, but that he would not reveal the name until his trial.2
