Writers Guild Strike

Guide Note: The Writer's Guild of America voted to strike starting Monday, November 5, in an attempt to garner more pay from DVD sales, television syndication deals and Internet distribution of material. The producer's union argues that the WGA demands would cost $200 million over three years.

Resolution:

On February 12, the Writers Guild membership conducted a special vote to end the strike. In the vote, 92.5% of the guild members voted to lift the restraining order, allowing writers to return to work.

Top Issues:

  1. DVD sales royalties
  2. Web royalties
  3. Credit, pay and benefits for reality show writers
  4. The guild's contract expired Oct. 31, 2007
