FINAL

  • Kansas State just didn't have enough once Wisconsin figured out how to contain Michael Beasley (and to be fair, he did sustain an ankle injury). Plus the Badgers made over half their shots from the field and sank 9 three-pointers to the Wildcats' zero— the Cats ended the game at 0-15 from behind the 3-point line, which was the first time they didn't connect from long distance in a game since 1996, when they last appeared in the Tournament. Wisconsin looks forward to meeting the winner of Georgetown/Davidson.

SECOND HALF

  • 0:00: Beasley is KState's player of the game with yet another double-double performance, and of course Trevon Hughes gets that status for the Badgers with his 25-point showing.
  • 0:53: Beasley sits, the Big 12 Player of the Year is done for the year...even the Kansas fans waiting for their game are giving him a standing O. Will he be back?
  • 2:22: Young puts one up and in, he has 4 for KState.
  • 2:49: Walker fouls out, an offensive foul against Landry. He'll be back next year -- he's just a freshman.
  • 2:59: TIMEOUT: The Cats have heart but there's simply not enough time. Much will likely be made of Beasley's injury, but don't look for KState to use it as an excuse...Walker was the only other Wildcat who really had much of an impact in the game. Sutton, Anderson, Pullen, they all had solid efforts in Round 1 and weren't able to duplicate those efforts today.
  • 3:14: TIMEOUT: This one figures to be done at this point, WISC's only gotten more confident with their shots, and with Beasley showing he's human it's going to be next to impossible for the Cats.
  • 3:53: Hughes with his 4th trey for WISC. Wonder who's getting Player of the Game today?
  • 4:39: Biggest lead of the game for WISC, Hughes gets two free throws.
  • Dean: Point was made that perhaps the dropoff for Beasley has to do with his newly taped ankle.
  • 5:06: WISC's Bohannon got Walker to commit his fourth in the act of shooting a three. He sinks 2 of 3 free throws.
  • 6:08: Krabbenhoft finally gets on the board for the Badgers.
  • 6:39: Pullen banks it in for 2.
  • 7:33: TIMEOUT: Walker just got nailed in the nose, lots of "inadvertent" fouls today that don't look very inadvertent to me. Walker has 10 of KState's 16 in the 2nd half
  • 8:46: Stiemsma is bringing it, he scores and gets Beasley to foul him. Career-high 14 for Stiemsma.
  • 9:00: Walker has stepped up, he gets another and is up to 18 pts.
  • Dean: Lots of fouls here, WISC is already in the double-bonus, which plays into their gameplan very well.
  • 9:23: Stiemsma gets an O board after a missed foul shot and puts it in.
  • 10:27: Flowers for WISC has picked up two quick fouls, here, he joins Landry, Stiemsma and Butch with three fouls for the Badgers.
  • 10:50: Walker blows by Stiemsma for a bucket.
  • 11:44: TIMEOUT: The way WISC plays, you have to believe the Cats are running out of time. But if Beasley starts shooting out the lights he could probably score 13 in about two minutes...he only has two this half so far, though.
  • 12:26: Hughes breaks the 20-point mark for WISC.
  • Dean: Things are getting intense after those T's, lots of fouls and near-fouls. Both teams are getting aggressive, which could help KState and hurt WISC by getting them off their calm, collected game plan.
  • 13:25: Walker's mad now, he powered inside for a bucket to cut the Badgers' lead to single digits.
  • 14:05: Walker puts it in for KState and then WISC's Butch shoved him to get a T -- that's his third foul. Woah, then they gave Walker a T as well, which is also his third foul overall.
  • 14:40: Pullen has his first two for KState, maybe he'll be the one to step it up.
  • 15:01: TIMEOUT: No one's stepping up for KState, but Hughes is stepping up big-time for WISC as Butch and Landry are having quieter games than usual for the Badgers. Flowers has 4 assists.
  • 15:23: Hughes with another three, he's unconscious!
  • 15:40: Beasley passed up a wide-open three but the ball eventually found him and he scores.
  • 16:35: Hughes with a made jump shot, he leads the Badgers and gives WISC their biggest lead.
  • Dean: Announcers just said WISC has 7 threes, KState has zero. Also, WISC's Landry is having an off night with two points and three fouls, he's sitting.
  • 17:18: TIMEOUT: Scrappy play by the Cats, but they have to start scoring. WISC looks like they're still going to shoot well, so KState will have to answer that effort, and then some.
  • Dean: Cats are cold so far, WISC's done all the scoring in the first few minutes.
  • 18:41: Wow, Hughes for the Badgers with a beautiful move to the basket, count it plus the foul.
  • 19:43: Butch gets WISC's first 2nd half points.
  • Dean: 2nd Half underway, let's see if someone other than Beasley can get hot for the Cats.

HALFTIME

  • Michael Beasley is certainly doing his part for Kansas State; he has 17 points at the intermission. After a big first round game, Bill Walker had a slow start but is second in scoring for the Cats with 8...other than Walker and Beasley, however, no one else has more than a bucket for KState. They beat USC by getting a balanced effort from a lot of different players, so someone besides Walker will likely have to step up in the second half. If the Badgers are able to continue shooting well (51% from the floor overall and 46% from beyond the arc) and can even come close to containing Beasley, they'll be looking good to advance.

FIRST HALF

  • 0:00: Hughes tried a three at the buzzer and could really have discouraged the Wildcats after they'd come all the way back, but he missed. A six-point lead for WISC.
  • 0:40: Flowers has a ton of threes including one here, he leads the Badgers with 11.
  • 1:02: Beasley gets the Cats within three with a dunk.
  • Dean: With Butch and Stiemsma on the bench, KState's gotten some O boards and are converting.
  • 2:24: Beasley drives to the basket again and gets Stiemsma to foul him as he makes the shot. Stiemsma has 2 fouls now.
  • Dean: Commentators made a good point that it's only been Beasley and Walker so far for the Cats and in Round 1 they had a lot of help from their teammates. They'll need help again today.
  • 3:45: TIMEOUT: KState's coming up with some much needed stops and Beasley's driving to the basket and getting fouled. Walker is stepping up as well.
  • 4:12: Walker with two made free throws.
  • 4:51: Walker might be getting frustrated, he fouled and it was almost got a T.
  • Dean: KState is hanging tough with some aggressive defense, WISC would be up by more
  • 6:00: Flowers got a three for WISC after a great screen from Butch.
  • Dean: Landry had to sit for WISC, he has two fouls.
  • 6:36: TIMEOUT: Someone like Walker needs to start helping Beasley, he's second in scoring with 4 so far.
  • 7:00: There's Walker with a bucket, muscling inside.
  • 7:17: TIMEOUT: WISC's shooting 60% from the field to KState's 30%. Beasley has 10 of the Cats' 16. So far KState's Bill Walker hasn't been the force he was against USC in Round 1
  • 7:20: Butch hits a three, the Badgers are on an 18-6 run.
  • Dean: Cats are not shooting well and allowing WISC to control the tempo.
  • 8:55: WISC's Hughes with a looong 3, he was a good yard outside the line
  • 9:30: Butch gets fed from Flowers for another easy bucket for WISC
  • 10:43: WISC did what they do here, took the shot clock down to nothing and got it inside to Stiemsma at the last second for the dunk.
  • Dean: Something's up with Beasley's ankle, they're taping it up.
  • 11:41: TIMEOUT: A flurry of scoring on each side, Beasley is obviously picking up where he left off in the first round game against USC, he's got 8. And five Badgers are on the board already as well.
  • 12:05: Beasley answers a Bohannon three for the Badgers
  • 12:39: Hughes gets on the board with a nice jumper
  • 12:50: Young of KState fouls, his first.
  • 14:00: Beasley takes it to the basket over Stiemsma after doing the same thing against Butch moments earlier, two quick baskets for him.
  • Dean: The matchup of the game so far is WISC's Brian Butch against frosh phenom Michael Beasley for the Cats.
  • Landry sinks two to tie it.
  • 15:51: TIMEOUT: KState's Sutton fouls Landry, his first. The story so far is KState's presence on the offensive boards. WISC's got to get more aggressive.
