Winchester Mystery House
The Winchester Mystery House is a well known California mansion that was once the residence of widow Sarah Lockwood Winchester. The mansion was under continuous construction starting in 1884 for 38 years until the death of Mrs. Winchester.
Reports say that after the death of her daughter Annie, and husband William Wirt Winchester, she received guidance from a psychic that told her she must build a house and keep building it to keep evil spirits away. She was also supposedly told that if she stopped building the house, she would die.
The mansion is now a tourist attraction. The home is uniquely designed with staircases leading into ceilings and even doorways leading to walls. The mansion is believed to be haunted by spirits.
