Wilderness Works

Guide Note: Wilderness Works is a charitable organization that helps provide impoverished children with an alternative outlet for their need for attention rather then seeking it through negative means.

Children that take part in the Wilderness Works program are more prepared for schools, show improved academic performance, have better school attendance, better grades, and better classroom behavior. They also show improved adult relationships and a better understanding of the options open to them in their future. They usually have improved self-esteem also, along with the ability to express their feelings.

Wilderness Works offers children a variety of different activities ranging from swimming, bicycling, boating, camping, craft making, roller skating, dancing, and drumming. It allows the children to discover national parks and forests, lakes, rivers, mountains and ocean. The kids also have the chance to improve their archery skills, take part in the arts and build crafts.

On April 18, 2008 the Lend a Hand Tour ended in Atlanta, Georgia at the Wilderness Works establishment. Al Roker delivered three truck's worth of goods along with a minivan for their use.
