Wild Arms XF
'
Wild Arms XF, pronounced Crossfire, is the first 2D fantasy
turn-based strategy/
RPG game in a series revolving around a group of knights called the Blanquizel taking back control of their homeland.
Story
Set in a Western themed story, Wild Arms XF tells the story of Clarisa, one of the knights of Blanquizel who is attempting to reclaim her mother's sword, with the help of Felius, from the drifter Rupert. The story is fairly linear and is punctuated by battles and typical RPG elements such as talking to townspeople, buying weapons, and hiring out some mercenaries.
Gameplay
The game is similar to turn-based strategy games like FF Tactics. Movements are limited to hexes and are completely turn based. So when you start a map you move a character then choose an action from the menu and continue fighting until you complete the specific objective. There are various classes that affect the battles and you need to have a mix of close-range fighters, magic-users, and distance fighters. You can, however, switch your character classes at any time during the game as long as you are not in the middle of a battle. Knowing your character and their strengths and weaknesses is especially important for battles because of the very specific objectives. In addition to learning the strengths and weaknesses of your characters, you also need to worry about the Vitality Points (VP). The VP runs out for each character whenever you select an action, and if the gauge is completely empty, your health decreases. Therefore getting the most out of your movement is especially important in this game.
